When you sit down to create something in your art journal do you always know exactly what you are going to make? Let me tell you a little secret ok? Don’t tell anyone alright?? Most of the time when I open up my journal I haven’t the foggiest clue where to start or what to make the page about.
This is exactly what happened when I sat down to create this latest video tutorial and I am going to share with you today how I worked through it and what sparked my ideas.
fun new supplies
So to start off with my Mum got a big set of stamps recently from create and craft made by Rare Earth. There were two stamp sets in it that were definitely not her style and I was only too happy to take them off her hands! So that was all that I knew I wanted to add to my journal spread, one of these new stamps and that’s exactly what I did.
finger painting time!
Once the stamps were on it was time for some paint and I decided I was over teal and pink (hahahahaha NEVER) and wanted a change so I reached for a bright yellow and a nice warm orange and just slapped on some paint. I added in some Opera Rose (isn’t that just the best paint name EVER?) using my fingers because there is just something magical about getting your fingers right into the paint.
Music Inspiring Art
Ok so at this stage I still wasn’t sure what I was doing or where it was going and you know what, that’s totally ok! Sometimes I just follow the rabbit and see where he takes me! I was listening to an 80’s playlist on Spotify at the time and the song “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell came on and it just set off a lightbulb, I knew exactly where the page was going and what I wanted to do next.
Inspiration is everywhere
Using Music to inspire my Art is something that I really love to do, there are so many amazing songs out there and so many wonderful lyrics you really can’t help but be inspired by them! I have made many pages in my journal dedicated to songs I love or just songs that I overheard whilst out and about shopping, inspiration really is everywhere!
