When it comes to time, no matter how creative we are, we just can't make more of it! So we have to make the most of the time that we do have available to us when we sit down to create. I'm sharing four tips here on how to make the most of your art journal time by using a few simple tools and steps to get more out of those precious minutes we can grab.
I'm sharing four tips here on how you can get a head start on your creative time!
Gesso like you mean it
So unlike when I am working inside of my altered book I always prepare my journal pages with gesso. I never know what medium I am going to through at my journal next so I do like to have a nice surface to work on.
Let's face it, applying Gesso is not the most exciting use of your time but it's gotta be done. Just like the laundry, boring but necessary if you want clean underwear.
Adding Gesso a few pages ahead means that you don't have to wait to get started once you sit down
Get a handy dandy box!
When working for design teams it's important that you know where everything is that you have received to use in your creations. I have a huge box for my stencilgirl stencils but I also have a handy wee box for all of my supplies from Birgit.
There is no reason why you can't make yourself a little container of all your go to supplies for use in your art journaling. You'd be surprised what you can fit in it and it will save so much time looking all over for your supplies.
Invest in a catalyst tool
Now I am not one for telling people that they HAVE to go out and buy a particular supply. I am very happy to share what I love and why I love it but telling you that you NEED this? Not normally my style, I'm more of a use what you have type gal.
But I will always make an exception for this little tool. Applying paint with the Catalyst is the work of seconds and because the layers go on so thinly it takes moments to dry.
If I had to have one desert island supply it would certainly be this handy little thing.
